I have student loans by 2 different agencies...gov't owned/insured. am current on both loans but show many lates (up to 120 days) from nearly 2 years ago..I have disputed the lates with the CRAs once, and wrote goodwill letters to both loan originators. Response was: The government demands we report ALL activity, even negative.
Question: WHO in the government offices can a lowly commoner like me write to, to humbly ask for late tl deletions?
Anybody know?
~Thanks!!!!

Really I think it is a mixed bag - I have heard stories from past members about accomplishing getting the lates removed through good will, but I don't know who they went through.
What I suggest is to try every possible direction, like if you see the address for the reporting department on the credit report then send a letter that direction, or if you have a address on billing statement send that way, or even if they list a seperate address for disputes can try there as well. Another way would be to look for web site and search to see if any further addresses are given to contacting them, to send to.
Some times persistance can pay off, might be that you got the wrong person that day at the prior address, but it you try again the same direction you might get a different response. I think the people employed at the different offices can be counted on to handle goodwill or disputes differently from the next.

I'm not really sure here.
I'm trying to deal with a couple of these myself. One seems willing to negotiate just about anything for the right price (which means that they have me over a barrel as far as trying to settle cheap because there is no SOL to protect me), the other keeps throwing out the same excuse that you mention.
My guess is that it's pure BS - they aren't willing to tell you "no" so they hide behind the excuse that it's the government's fault.
I doubt that anyone with the Feds cares what's on your credit report, provided that you aren't in default. I can't find the law on that though, it's just a guess.
Have you paid these off or do you still owe and have a balance? Everyone listens when money talks - if it's really a big deal to you, why don't you get someone on the phone at the supervisor level or above and offer to pay ahead if they'll help you out with language? If you keep getting the same excuse, keep asking for that person's supervisor - eventually you will find someone who is willing to deal with you or who has the answer to your question about how to fix it.

I just thought of something - why not see if you can re-age this account. It is not like it matters since they have no SOL on the debt.
I know I have always thought of this for just credit cards, but you might check and see if they would consider this.
Re-aging just means that if they set terms and you meet their requirements over a certain period of time, they would then agree to wipe the slate clean on the credit reporting. What the hay, can't hurt.
