okay...here goes. I had a student loan with Sallie Mae. Here is how the information is being reported by Equifax. By the way, the account is listed twice:

Current Status: 120+ days past dueStudent Loan Transferred or sold
Past Due: $0
Balance: $0
Date Opened: 7/96
Date Reported: 10/99
Date of Last Activity: 12/98

30 days late: 0 60 days late: 0 90+ days late: 6
9/1999
8/1999
7/1999
3 additional 90+ days delinquent

**This account went into default....and I ended up paying it off (to CSLF)- BEFORE I knew anything about DV, loan rehabilitation, etc. or this board. Anway, it's still on my CR and I want it off, but I do not want to jeopardize the good tradeline. The SOL is 12/05.
----------------------------------------
Current Status: Pays as agreed
Date Opened: July 1996
Date Reported: 3/99
Date of Last Activity: 12/98
Balance: $0

Is there anyway to challenge the first entry without jeopardizing the latter? Probably not. Anyway, would someone please enlighten me and explain how can an account which was transferred or sold with a DOLA of 12/98 report "currently 120+ days past due"? The Last Report from Sallie Mae to the CRA was 10/99. Am I missing something?

My score for EQ as of 10/03...686

They would take the 1st one since the last reported date is more recent...

Also is there a difference in account numbers between the two? If so you might try to dispute and specifically note the account number of the first one as what you want investigated. See if you can slip it by them.

But I really think if this is to work, it is most likely going to cost both of them, no matter which one you dispute.

Also the older the derogitory information gets, the less it is affecting your credit score. 1998 is starting to get out there,

Another thought, not sure how well it will work, but if you try to write a goodwill letter to the student loan company... I think I have seen people post mixed results in what they could accomplish here requesting late removals.

I had lots of Sallie Mae tradelines with those kinds of notations up the ying yang on my credit report years ago.

Since I always had problems with student loans at that time of my life, my goal was simply to get them all deleted.

I started off with disputing that certain Sallie Mae trade lines were duplicate accounts.

That got the Sallie Mae tradelines cut in half after a while.

Then I disputed the remaining ones as duplicates of each other.

Finally, I did the last one as not mine and got it removed after a bit of hassle.
