Hey,
Recently I purchased a new home closed on 06/26/2003. I was forced to pay off all past due debts including student loan. The student loan people did not settle with me (ouch), forced to pay full amount.

My question is this. The student loan is reporting as PAID/COLLECTION account with R5 status CLOSED. This is negative information. What can I do to get this completely removed from my credit reports. How long can a PAID Student Loan Collection Account stay on your report 7 or 10 years?

I noticed they are reporting a LAST ACTIVITY date on this account of 06/2003 -- the date I paid it off in full. The listing is showing a date opened with the CRA of 08/99. I'm positive the date opened is incorrect considering they were hounding me for like 1 year due to missed payments.

What advice can you give to try to get this item removed? Should I request a debt validation with the collection agency although its paid off..get my green card..and dispute the CRAs claiming I paid the debt off although it is not mine to complete the purchase of my new home?

Any help PLEASE...

I have a very similar situation.

After getting the judgement removed from my credit reports from a defaulted student loan, all that remained was the tradeline from the State of Texas Student Loans. After much disputing, it was listed in the "good" side of my credit as paid but with an R5. And it shows the year it was an R5.

I have disputed it a few times but it always comes back as verified.

Fortunately, it is only showing up on CSC. I got the judgements removed from all three CRAs some time ago.

I never really tackled that tradeline much because it was on the good side of my credit and I had bigger fish to fry in cleaning up my credit.

However, I am going to get that trade line removed.

But in my case, I am going to use the credit repair methods.

Your case is different. However, was it a CA that shows that tradeline? Or was it Uncle Sugar or your state government that hounded you for the defaulted student loan?

If it was a CA, then debt validation is the best route to take.

I know DV doesn't work with Uncle Sugar. My point was with the CA if indeed there is a CA involved or the CA is what was reporting.

With my defaulted student loans, no CA was ever involved.

I simply got judgements.

And those judgements were outstanding even though I was on payment plans and even if I only owed one dollar.

But the real issue is with the CRAs because they are reporting the negative tradelines. It is the CRAs that you have to convince to drop the negative tradeline.

Hey Guys,
Well I pressured Equifax into deleting the payment history and upgrading this tl status from r5 to r1. I was hoping Equifax would delete the tl all together. I'm staying on top of them and will not rest until the trade-line is deleted. The tl is being reported by Great Lakes Higher Education. Wish me luck.

In case you are wondering how in the world I got Equifax to delete the payment history, I disputed the account history as not valid and sent them some paperwork provided by Great Lakes Higher Education. Hopefully I can get this trade-line deleted.

Thanks.

Even though it now states R1, does the trade line still have the remark PAID COLLECTION on it?

Also, supporting documentation goes a long way with the CRAs.

All my documentation that I have is nothing that I can use. I am still going to continue using your route since it has worked for you.
