Hello,

im 20 and well my credit is destroyed. My mother took out credit cards when i was underage (14-16) without my knowledge, and when she passed away when i was 17, all the debt went under my name. $10,000 worth of debt through 9 different cards.

I didnt find out untill i was 18, tried to get a car loan and got turned down for bad credit. i got my credit report , and found out about the debt my mother aquired.

Im unsure what to do. im writing the 3 bureaus about the situation and to investigate. Besides that, where do i begin?

Dispute dispute dispute.....You should have no problem getting things removed due to your age.....I didnt when it happened to me...I just politely explained I would have been 10 years old when this account was opened.....DELETED....I am sure you will have a few problems but for the majority it will be deleted.....I would think....dispute them then get back with us with those results....just my 2 cents and good luck

It might not be a bad idea to contact the OC's directly on this as well as disputing with the CRA's. They entered into a fraudulent agreement using a minor's SSN.

I always appreciate input. Its great that when your not sure what to do in a situation, other people have information to help you out. Im really hoping I can clear this up sooner than later, because it really is a burden. Again I appreciate everyones input. Thank you so much. :)

My son did the same thing to me. I was told that I had to file police reports. When I did that and then sent the police reports with the claim that I didn't do it, most debtors took them off.

You can file a police report for each one you know of, and do it now. The later to wait the more you will look guilty.

Best of luck. It is such a disappointment when someone you love and hope loves you does something so awful. I am very sorry you too had to suffer this.

when you filed the police report, did the police take it any further?

It was, unfortunately, my son. And yes, I had to press charges against him. And he went to juvy, and when he got out, he did it again. For a long time, I didn't realize he was doing it, and I was having some horrible personal issues that was keeping me from thinking clearly. And on top of it, I didn't know about credit theft and NEVER would have suspected him. So he was able to do it slowly and surely over a period of years. I'd get bills for stuff and I'd throw them away thinking it was nuts and the companies were just scamming me. Never considered my son or anyone was using my SS# etc to get credit. Never even heard of such a thing. When I finally realized he was doing this, my credit was in shambles--maybe 435. That was in 2001. I was moving at the time, and trying to start a new job, etc. and so I worked on it sporadically. And I kept putting him back in juvy. Over a 2 year period, I think he was out for about 12-16 weeks, in the rest of the time. Instead of the court helping me (he is diagnosed as bipolar), they just put him back in jail and took him off meds. Anyway, so I have contacted many OCs and told them this, and most have been very cooperative to take off stuff. I have a couple that I think could be mine, but I don't remember--too much in and out of court, in and out of jail to visit, in and out of the system as I surely had to be a bad mom (finally figured out I was okay), too much work, too much other life, and then I realized that his dad was doing the same thing to my credit. He is also bipolar. So I have to try to get that cleared up too, and unfortunately getting an Ex's stuff off is not so easy. Everyone wants to know if it happened during the marriage, and it is very complicated. I feel like I have lived through creditor h*** and I come out on the other end covered with excrement but alive. I am up to about 535 or maybe 545 now, and I am working to try to resolve some more of them. One bank, even with a police report, refused to acknowledge it. I am having to go around them and contact the CRAs (including ChexSystem from his writing several bad checks and the bank having to cover them--now that is a joke) and try to get things off. It is not easy. It has not been fun, and it has hurt me financially so bad I cannot even think to say what has happened.

i'm sorry you've had such a terrible time, dealing with the mentally ill is draining, especially when they are relatives and hurt you with their actions. whether they are "ill" or not the effect they have on those around them is devastating.

my id theif is also a relative, i seriously believe they suffer from antisocial personality disorder (psychopath in laymans terms) i am really hoping they will get thrown back in jail without me having to be the one who sends them back there.

You need to:

Obtain copy of your birth certificate, file police report including all of these creditors names and accounts numbers as they show on the credit reports.

Go to the FTC Site to obtain When Bad Things Happen to my Good Name & the ID Theft Affidavit.

Forward copy of Police Report & Affidavit to all 4 CRAs (including Innovis www.innovis.com) and all of the creditors and or the collection agencies working on collecting these accounts.

Contact Social Security Administration to talk to them about getting a new social security number!!! Provide them as well with copies of the police report & ID Theft Affidavit.

Also get in touch with help from ID Theft Resource Center www.idtheftcenter.org - some cases from various directions a case worker may contact you and walk you through this case personally.

Also contact FTC ask them if they can put you in touch with the new program through www.cdiaonline.com it is a pilot program.

Consumer Data Industry Association
The Financial Services Roundtable

Quote:
The ITAC pilot is expected to be operational by May 2004. Wells Fargo & COmpany will conduct the ITAC pilot with the support of Roundtable and BITS member institutions. Participation in ITAC is voluntary for companies. "With ITAC, victims will only have to report the crime once, saving them from having to spend hours retelling their story to multiple departments in multiple companies," said Stever Bartlett, President and CEO of the Financial Services Roundtable.

Hope this helps,

Hello There:

I lol when I read this not because its funny but because my mom did the same exact thing! Honestly with a little persistence it was very easy to get everything off. Now I know you mentioned that she did this between 14-16 this is a good thing because you were under the age of 18. I called every credit card company and had a fraud investigation done on each of them. Explain the situation and let them especially know that all this was done before you were legal! They will send a couple of forms that may have to be notorized but you should be fine. (Trust me) Good luck! If you have any other questions let me know!
