Asset sent me incomplete validation today (it was a computer generated sheet!) Imagine that huh!!....but the kicker is: they sent me someone else info. The address was mine but the zip code and phone numbers were wrong, AND a totally wrong SS#!!! I already sent Asset a REAL NASTY letter demanding deletion, but on top of that, I am going to send a complaint the to FTC thru www.FTC.gov.

Here is a copy and paste of the complaint I will send to the FTC today:

"This complaint has two sides to it...Unfair Debt Collection and false credit reporting. On January 19, 2005, I receive my Experian credit report and see that Asset Acceptance LLC is listed on there twice. I have never heard of Asset Acceptance, so I dispute it with Experian. Asset claims that I owe a phone bill and a medical bill to them. On that same day, I send them a letter asking them to double check their records and verify that the debt does belong to me. I then receive two letters from their company (a computer generated sheet, which is far from complete validation according to the FDCPA) showing my name, address and the balance of debts that I know are not mine. First of all, the zip code is wrong on the address listing. The telephone number is wrong too! But the most damaging evidence that this debt is not mine is that they put the wrong social security number on there. They only put the last 4 digits of some SS# and it was : xxxx. My SS# is: xxx-xx-xxxx! And to top it off, Experian verified their claims as well! I will send Experian a nasty letter as well, because if this is what they received as proof a a debt that Asset Acceptance claims that I owe, I will seek Civil Remedy against them as well!! I sent Asset a return letter demanding that they take these entries off of my report and have told them I will seek Civil Remedy if they do not comply to my request. I just wanted to file a complaint because this is blatant "unfair practices" by a collection agency and false reporting by Experian. All they are trying to do is fill their pockets. Illegally, if I may add! Please contact them and put a stop to it. Thank you kindly!"

Please feel free to comment on this complaint to the FTC....I promise I take critcism very well  Should I add anything or take anything off? TIA!

Golden rule: don't write like you speak. Especially if you're filing a formal complaint.

Also so the consumer and report them to the MI Attorney General.

Thanks Doc once again.....does the complaint get the point across? And does filing the complaint accomplish anything? Will they even attempt to contact EXP or Asset? Should I file with the IN AG as well?

Here's an example of what filing consumer complaints will accomplish:

The Minnesota AG's Office filed suit against Cap1:

http://www.ag.state.mn.us/consumer/PR/PR_041230CapitalOneBank_FSB.htm

and Allied Interstate, Inc. and JBC and Associates, P.C.:

http://www.ag.state.mn.us/consumer/PR/PR_040616AlliedInterstate_JBC.htm

So, while they cannot take action on behalf of you individually, they can to protect the consumer as a whole. That's why complaints should be filed.

Yes, you should also file a complaint with your own AG.

Well Doc, here's an update on this thread.....

Remember that Asset sent me an incomplete validation (computer generated sheet, verifying those accounts). Those sheets contained the wrong SS#'s!!! I went ahead, as I said, and filed complaints with the FTC, the IN AG and the MI AG. I got a quick response from the MI AG and they informed me that they contacted Asset. I didn't hear from the other two places but.......I got my results back from EXP today: Asset Acceptance-DELETED! Both of the accounts!! You're right DOC, it does pay to send those complaints! Thanks again!
