If I were to sue a CA for violations of the FDCPA and I win, say $1000.00. I use this money to pay my lawyer so I can file chpt. 7, would this fall under an exception in NYS?

My other question is about dogs and cats. On one of the sites I linked to from Lists for BK Info, I found this: <<domestic animals with food to $450>>.

What does this mean? Is the $450 for both the cost of the animal and the food? What if one of the animals was purchased four years ago for over $450?

Can a person have more than one dog or cat? If no, what happens to the animals? :?

I live in NYS.

Thanks!

Exception to what ?? You use the money to pay a lawyer, it's gone, nothing a Trustee can do about that.

If you have a pedigreed animal that is worth a fair amount of money, you may have to include the animal in your list of assets. However, unless this anitmal is rare or brings in whopping breeding fees, the Trustee isn't going to be interested in taking your pet. However, you can list the expenses to keep that pet - food, vet bills, etc.

Trustees don't care how many animals you have - although if you had 100 cats, or dogs, they might wonder how you manage to feed them and yet you can't pay your creditors.
