Does anyone know if companies like Progressive or Geico will cancel your policy after you file for Bankruptcy?

I gonna say not. Obviously, each company has their own procedures...but, Erie Insurance kept our policy going right through our BK, even though we returned one car and didn't reaffirm on the other. Rates went up a bit at renewal time, but they didn't cancel.

Nah, then they can't screw you over on rates.

They're not likely to cancel an existing policy and I've never heard of any insurance company doing it. They might raise your rates when your policy is up for renewal. I've had the same auto insurance company for almost 25 years, my bankruptcy made ZERO difference in my rates.

I have policies with both Progressive and Geico. Neither one cancelled or even raised an eyebrow as far as I know. They never communicated to me in any way about the bk (CH13). As a matter of fact, just got the Geico renewal and rate went down. Also, just got new Geico policy on watercraft and there was language in there that stated that Bk or insolvency of insured would not affect coverage.

They won't cancel but they DO pull credit reports every 6 months to see what your rates are going to be for the next 6 months usually. I would watch for a hike in your insurance premiums.
