As I sit here at my desk eating a sandwich this question arose as phones ring all round me ...

Office or cubicle?

Alas, I have a cubicle xSteaminx

cubicle. mine is the only one on the floor without walls. i'll be glad when mine are in. when i worked for "the big bank" we had cubicles also..but the walls went almost to the ceiling..so it was like a small office..eeer broom closet..

neither. No longer working i am in school so just a desk.

when i was working my last job a drug company---- cubicle ( first cubie job ever) I hated it. I had two jobs in NYC and both I had my own office with a nice view of the empire state building and the other view of hudson river.

cubicles suck plus they do that rude thing of placing the computer in such a way that i had to worry if the boss would see me on CIC bummer :twisted::twisted:.

That's how my office is.

Actually, most the offices here have 10-15 ft high walls and doors so we have no ceilings but the ceiling in this building is like 30 feet high? But there are also some standard cubicles.

When I close my door it does get a bit quieter and most importantly keeps those I don't feel like dealing with out. I can at least try and have an an uninterrupted lunch.

Just ask J! He was in my office. :p

I work in a 2 person office. It is literally me, and the GM. We are the only 2 ppl in the USA office. I have my own office of about 10X12, but it has a window from my bosses office directly into mine. So I guess fish bowl is more like it!!

Cube, but it buts up against floor to ceiling windows, so it could be worse!

Office. My office looks out to a sea of cubicles though. The cube spaces have more room than my office!!

Cube Rat here. But it is nice as far as cubes go. Got bumped out of my office a few years ago. It sucked as far as offices go, but at least it had a door.

Most of my jobs have been in cube farms which was the case with my current job until the facility was closed down. What was left of us from the layoff (four people) are now in a large one room office. Each of us tried to pile up stackable trays and a hutch but it is still kind of freaky to work in such an open area. As a result, I miss my cube farm...

My last 'go to an office' job I had a real office.

Now my office is in my house. When I go to the corporate offices I sit wherever there is space because someone is out for the day.

that's funny.

I have an office with a window that faces the local bus station. LOL
Only our secretaries have cubicles in the middle of the offices.

I have had a cubicle that was in a makeshift office that was once a hall that led an old emergency exit. It was very tight.

I've had both, I'm not sure one is better than the other, (sometimes office walls are given in lieu of higher pay). I'd be motivated to carry a box around with my belongings for the right salary ;).

My humble opinion is anything with a window is better than not.

Today I have a dedicated home office, in some ways its great in others not so great (i.e. little hands moving things around) I have to say the gas fireplace is way better than those silly under desk heaters for my perpetually cold feet

I have an office with lots windows...it's ok, but most people stop by when they see me in the office instead of going to the front desk...

I also have my workshop, I spend most of my time in there..

we are going to make a lounge with a fouton so I can take a nap of I want to...

We will be remodeling my office in the next few weeks so I can have a more up to date look and a better layout

Last job I shared a small office with two other people. We each turned our desks in different directions so we didn't have to stare at eachother all day.

Our cheap-ass boss wouldn't even splurge for partitions.

Would you have done that if you had a hot chick co-worker...

However, at my workplace, we feel like going out and buying partions so we don't stare at each other... One guy bought a huge leafy plant...

If it was a she and she was hot, I would have figured out a way to turn my desk upside down.

It's funny what a select group bloggers tend to be... desk or cubicle?

You drive down any highway and most of the main streets of your town, there's people working everywhere, the hundreds and thousands in the retail stores and on the streets and mowing lawns.... I mean how many businesses can you drive by before you envision ONE decent job that anyone has.

I'd say a solid 80% have neither and work upright on their feet out in plain view.

Funny thing is there doesn't appear to be any correlation to status between office, cubicle, or otherwise... I wouldn't want the perk itself to BE the office!

So even after graduation I'll be one of those out in plain view on my feet most likely, but at least well compensated for it.

"office" but for both my new and past job, I also am the first point of contact so I have no door too shut LOL.

Hybrid. I have no door, but my "office" is on the manufacturing floor...I have three areas of responsibility, with a desk at one, and a electronics workbench on the other..taking up about 25 feet on the side of the building. It's bigger than my boss' area, but I like her area better...she can shut her door. I have no door or nothing.....I can't even put up funny pictures or anything *grr*

Well, technically 2 of us share the War Room so it's kind of an office but anyone can walk through here. We have personal cabinets for all our stuff too.

One of the disadvantages of how my cubicle is situated - everyone walks up to my desk and takes stuff- pens, highlighters, pencils AND they lay whatever on my desk so on Monday morning when I go in I'll have to go through the routine of restocking my pens, cleaning crap off of my desk ..... ggggrrrr!!!!!

Just had to measure it: 18'x39'. We are in an old Vought Aviation building that is 330,000 sqft. 30,000 sq ft is office space and we only are using about 4,000.

The coolest cube I heard about (but never personally saw) when I was working at this one army defense contractor. Once in a great while, we had to visit this small two story office building that the government leased out.

One time, I was joking to some of the government workers who worked in that building that there was a strip center next door that had a topless bar. One goverment worker (they would visit our site all the time) said his cube was up against the window and being up on the second floor, he had a perfect view of the back of that strip center and he could see the strippers step outside to take a smoke a break. And most of the time they were half naked...

Now I knew why these government workers never got anything done at that place...

I guess I'm on the lucky list with two offices. One each at the primary two locations I work out of. One is small with full length windows on the departure end of a busy runway, which is nice but distractiing during heavy push times. The other has no windows but is quite large at 240 sq feet and two walk in closets. Hate the no windows part though. I can also work at home, and often do, so that is my favorite.

Cube rat. Last gig where I had an office was in 1996. Shared it with a coworker. All of us did, but at least it was a for real office. I lucked out and had a great office mate.

First cube gig was a really cool cube. Corner, by a window, with a nice view of downtown. In the summer I got a fair bit of sun, but monitor was at an angle that I didn't get glare.

Second cube wasn't too bad either. Low walls so we could literally and easily "shout over the wall". Also there was a number of hot girls on the floor so you could go for a walk and "see the sights".

Kick in the nads is there's a fair body of research which shows significant productivity increases from offices over cube farms.
